Margaret (Peg) Steunenberg

June 7, 1943 ~ May 30, 2018 (age 74)

Born in San Diego on June 7, 1943, Peg, as she was always known, was raised in Kansas City, Kansas. Born with a friendly smile and a sunny disposition, she and her husband Al were married for 49 years. Peg was a lifelong learner who valued education. She graduated from Avila College in Kansas City with a BS in Nursing. Upon moving to California with her husband in 1971, she returned to school and earned a BA Degree in Art from San Jose State University and later a graduate degree in Scientific Illustration from UC Santa Cruz.

The focus of Peg’s work was education and conservation. As a member of the Guild of Natural Science Illustrators and the American Society of Botanical Artists, her work has been accepted for national and international exhibits by the Smithsonian Institute as well as a number of other notable organizations. She was an instructor at the Yellowstone Association Institute for many years and illustrated two books, “Plants of the East Bay Parks” and ”California Plant Families”.

She leaves behind her husband, their son Grant, as well as her two grandchildren, Ben and Claire.
