Lois passed away peacefully after a courageous eight month battle with cancer. She was born in New Jersey to Frank and Marie McCarthy. She earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree in 1970 from The University of Wisconsin, where she met her future husband, Harry. Harry and Lois moved to California in 1977 where Lois earned her Law Degree from Golden Gate University in 1983. She worked for the Ericksen, Arbuthnot, Kilduff, Day and Lindstrom law firm her entire career. She was an outstanding lawyer and highly respected as a mentor within the firm. She was the managing partner of the firm’s Oakland office and a proud Board member of the Association of Defense Counsel of Northern California and Nevada.
She is survived by her husband of 45 years, Harry, who was by her side at the end, sisters Jane and Fran, nephews Jeremy, Justin, Michael, nieces Andrea, Bevin, Rachael, great nieces Erin, Maya, Hannah and great nephews Jack, Mark, Brett and Anthony, all of whom she dearly loved.
She loved hiking and beaches, golf and art shows, parks and museums. She was an avid reader and enjoyed the theatre and music from classical to Janis Joplin. But, most of all she loved people. Her laughter, smile, warm, easy going personality made her instant friends with all she met. As many have remembered, she was a wonderful person, one of a kind and will be missed.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday April 14th at 11:30 AM at Wilson & Kratzer Chapel, 825 Hartz Way, Danville. A reception will be held at the Chapel following the service. A Book of Memories is being created, so everyone is encouraged to write down some thoughts about Lois to bring to the service for inclusion in the book.
In lieu of flowers the family would like you to consider a donation to the East Bay SPCA, 8323 Baldwin Street, Oakland, Ca. 94621-1977.
