Lawrence “Larry” Lucas

1932-2021

Resident of Alamo

Larry passed away peacefully with his daughters by his side on August 8, 2021 at the age of 89. Larry was born to Joseph and Mary Lucas on January 13, 1932 in Byron, California. The family moved to Walnut Creek in 1939 where his father opened a Studebaker Auto Dealership. He spent his childhood in Walnut Creek and graduated from Acalanes High School where he excelled in sports (football & track) and earned several athletic achievement awards.

Larry had a varied and successful business career which began by working at the family Auto Dealership for several years before opening his own agency, the first Mercedez Benz Dealership in Walnut Creek. He sold his business in 1965 and went to work for Jefferson Motors as sales manager. After 6 years, tired of the car business, he earned his Real Estate License. He went to work for Systech Financial Corporation, a Real Estate Syndication Firm in Walnut Creek where he was very successful and after one year, was promoted to Vice President of Marketing, and then President at the age of 40. In 1974 he founded Leastec Financial Corporation, a syndication firm which leased Capital Equipment to Fortune 500 Companies (Computer Equipment, Medical Catscans & MRI’s, Refrigerated Railcars and various other types of equipment). Larry retired in 1989 at the age of 58 when his firm was acquired by Capital Associates, a publicly owned corporation headquartered in Colorado Springs.

Larry’s favorite pastime was golf.  He and his lovely wife Rita enjoyed playing the game at Diablo Country Club and at Indian Wells Country Club where they owned a 2nd home. He was proud that he experienced a Hole In One, and was able to play in The Bob Hope Chrysler Classic Golf Tournament for 7 consecutive years.

Larry’s beloved wife of 60 years passed away in 2020.  He leaves two daughters, Sheila Langon (Jeff) of Diablo and Dayna Lucas of Danville.  He is also survived by his brother Robert Lucas of San Francisco, and his sister Beverly Long of Blackhawk, along with four grandchildren; Jessica Abhyankar (Kedar), Lucas Langon (Kate), Chloe McArthur (Alex) and Sam Langon (Caroline), and five great-grandchildren.  Larry will be remembered as an amazing father and role model who was quick witted and could sell anything to anybody. A private service for immediate family will be held.  Memorial donations may be made to SaveMountDiablo.org
