Karen Patricia Henderlong, age 56, peacefully passed away at home in Walnut Creek, California Thursday, October 18, 2018. She was born March 19, 1962 in Fremont, California to R. William and Julia Pink Henderlong but grew up in Danville and Alamo. In addition to her father, she was preceded in death by her grandparents, Ralph W. and Ferne Scott Henderlong and Herbert G. and Mabel Bastlin Pink, her uncle Herbert B. Pink, and her aunt Joan Henderlong Wood. Survivors include her mother and her sisters Karla Henderlong of Lafayette and Kathryn Henderlong Holloway (Vernon) of Davis, and cousins Michael Wood and Susan Wood Gambell (Michael) of Deer Park, Washington and James Wood (Jane) of Martinez, California.
Karen was an enjoyable person with a good sense of humor and natural style, and a flair for fashion. She enjoyed gardening, animals, traditional jazz concerts, computers, internet research, prime rib, pizza, Fentons’ banana special and family genealogy if she didn't have to do the work. She graduated in 1980 from The Athenian School in Danville, attended the University of Oregon, and received a Network Certification from the University of California at Davis. She enjoyed traveling and had belonged to Job's Daughters, Bethel 247 in Danville and the Sons of Norway.
Visitation with Karen and the family will be on Saturday, November 10 from 3-5 at Wilson & Kratzer Chapel of San Ramon Valley, 825 Hartz Way, Danville, CA 94526. Entombment will be Monday, November 12, 2018 at East Lawn Memorial Park at 4300 Folsom Boulevard in Sacramento, California. A Memorial Service will be conducted on Tuesday, November 13 at 2:00 p.m. at Community Presbyterian Church, 222 W. El Pintado, Danville, CA 94526 with the Rev. Heidi Johnson officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in memory of Karen to Tony La Russa's Animal Rescue Foundation (ARF).
