Dorothy Orr

July 31, 1922 ~ January 2, 2022 (age 99)

Dorothy Orr passed away January 2, 2022 at the age of 99 with family by her side. She enjoyed a long and happy life by staying active and taking her walks every day till she was 99.

Dorothy was born on July 31, 1922 in Woodland, California to Otto and Anna Sievers descendants of German pioneers. She grew up in Dixon on the family ranch on Sievers Road along with her sister, Anona and brother, Orval and attended a one room school house. She drove a Model A Ford into town to attend Dixon High School. She had a driver’s license at the age of 14 and was a May Fair Queen in the 1930’s.

Dorothy earned her teaching credentials in 1944 from San Jose State graduating on a Friday and started her teaching career the following Monday. She taught elementary school for about 6 years until she married Ray Orr and moved to Watsonville in 1950 where they raised 3 children, Larry, Valerie and Nancy. Although the marriage didn’t work their friendship did. Dorothy would once again rely on her teaching career and taught Kindergarten at MacQuiddy School for many years making many great friends whom she enjoyed and traveled sharing many great times together.

You could always count on Dorothy to have her tea by her side at all times. She loved reading, sewing, quilting, knitting, and crossword puzzles (every morning). She also enjoyed Bingo, volunteering at the church, and everyone knew her favorite color… Turquoise! Her freezer was always full of her famous bite size chocolate chip cookies. She had a great passion for her daily walks till the last year of her life. One of her favorite walks was to Seacliff Beach where she would walk the stairs down to the beach and enjoy a little lunch she would pack and once again climb the 150 steps back to the top and did this till she was 92.

Dorothy lived on Mariposa Avenue in Watsonville, CA for over 60 years and eventually moved to San Ramon to be closer to her family where she was adored by her kids, grandkids and 10 great grandkids enjoying many holidays and birthday celebrations. She loved her independence. She drove until she was 95 and lived alone till she turned 99.

She leaves behind her son, Larry Orr of Watsonville, daughter, Nancy Turner (Phil) of San Ramon, Grandchildren, Matt Turner (Sara), Ryan Turner (Vanessa), Michelle Paluch (Stosh), Tristin Wurzbach (Amy) and Julie Oliveira (Will) and 10 Great Grandkids, Dylan, Owen, Emma Turner as well as James and Taylor Turner all of San Ramon. Jake and Sami Paluch of Chandler Az and last but not least Bella, Zoey, and Liam Wurzbach of Newark and many close nieces and nephews.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her daughter, Valerie Wurzbach , parents Otto and Anna Sievers, sister Anona Higby, nephew James Higby, and brother Orval Sievers.

A special thanks to her nieces, Lesley Fong and Claudia Zavala, for always being there for their Aunt Dorothy!

Graveside services will be June 24th at 130 pm at the Dixon Cemetery with a reception to follow at Bud’s Pub and Grill at 100 S 1st Street in Dixon. Any questions feel free to contact Nancy Turner...
