Dean E McWilliams

February 10, 1941 ~ October 25, 2021 (age 80)

Dean E McWilliams passed away peacefully, early in the morning of Monday, October 25th, 2021, at the age of 80. Dean had been a longtime resident of the Danville, CA community and most recently of Blackhawk and San Ramon.

Born in Fort Collins, CO as the youngest of six children to Robert Elmer McWilliams and Gertrude (Price) McWilliams, then moved at age 5 to Gresham, OR where he attended school and graduated from Gresham High School where he was the editor of the school newspaper.

Dean attended and graduated from Lewis and Clark College, majoring in business administration and a minor in geology where during the summers he worked on oil rigs and at the family ranch in Colorado. During this time, he met the love and devotion of his life, Barbara Carol Dunn, introduced by Dean’s sister Barbara who was working at the same bank.

Dean and Barbara married on June 16th, 1962, in Gresham, OR having three children. Two sons in Gresham, Oregon and a daughter in Alamo, California.

After graduating college, Dean attended the IBM School of Corporate Management then embarking on a Sales and Marketing Management career with Remington Rand, Sperry Corp then Unisys before purchasing a west coast division from Unisys and forming Office Systems International. This career would take him and his family all over the USA, in many homes before settling in Danville in 1976.

Although his career was in the corporate world… Dean’s love of the outdoors was obvious and evident. This inspired from his parents and older siblings. Throughout the years, Dean and his family enjoyed camping, hunting, hiking, backpacking, boating, water and snow skiing… and fishing almost every lake, river and stream that he and they could. He and his family traveled all 50 states, seeing all that the country had to offer.

Dean was a supporter of both Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts through the years with his children and a lifelong Methodist. After settling in Danville, CA, he and Barbara joined the San Ramon Valley United Methodist Church where Dean was actively involved with committee service and community outreach. He was especially an active member, supporter and leader of the Men’s Group and was his passion while at SRVUMC Church.

Dean is survived by his beloved wife of 59 years, Barbara, his son David Thomas McWilliams (Andrea) of San Ramon, CA, daughter Amy Susan McWilliams Hess (Troy) of Concord, CA, grandchildren Holli Guillen (Jesus) of Alameda, CA and Jet McWilliams of San Ramon, CA… Sister in laws Marge McWilliams of Pleasant Hill, CA, Anne McWilliams of San Francisco, CA, Deanna Mason (Tom) of Portland, OR, and 18 nieces, nephews, and many grand nieces and nephews and recently (after Dean) the loss of niece, Coleen Pierceall of Redmond, OR.
