Stuart Mark Smart
June 29, 1959 - May 4, 2017
Resident of Danville
Stuart Mark Smart passed away at home amongst his loving family on Thursday, May 4th, following a courageous battle with melanoma. He was a kind, witty, and generous person with a steadfast dedication to his friends and family. Stu spent his life nurturing those he loved and always maintained an unwavering positivity.
Stu was born in Tucson, Arizona. As a young boy his family moved to Sacramento, California where he was raised. Stu graduated from Elk Grove High School where he excelled in academics. He went on to attend California State University, Sacramento where he earned a degree in Political Science. Stu moved to the Bay Area in 1986 beginning a 30-year career as a real estate field appraiser and manager.
Stu was a family man who was very involved in the lives of his three children. He spent many a weekend watching his children play a variety of sports, and also refereeing many of the children’s soccer games. Stu loved watching his children grow and raising them to be who they are today. He enjoyed teaching the kids how to do new things and also loved spending time traveling with his family. He especially enjoyed the many family trips and memories made in Carmel, Disneyland, Lake Tahoe, and Hawaii. In his youth Stu enjoyed rock climbing, scuba diving, volleyball, and sailing on Folsom Lake with his Hobie Cat.
Stu received a pancreas and kidney transplant seven years ago after years of diabetes affected his kidney function. He considered himself to be a lucky man for having lived as long as he did. He took great pride in his children and was happy that he lived long enough to see them grow up. I could not have asked for a more loving husband or father of my children. Stu was a truly remarkable man who was loved by all who knew him. He will be profoundly missed.
We would like to thank the many doctors and nurses who cared for Stu over the years. He was so grateful for your expertise. You allowed him to live the best life possible with the hand he was dealt. He had decades long relationships with many of you and he considered you to be his friends.
Stu is survived by his loving family - wife Robin, and their children Ryan, Nicole, and Parker; his sister, Susan Kossack (Thomas), niece Catherine, and nephew Christopher of Elk Grove, California; he is preceded in death by his father Harold Smart, his mother Florence Smart, and brother, Steven Smart.
Friends and family are invited to attend a Celebration of Life on Tuesday, June 6th at 2:00 pm at the Community Presbyterian Church, 222 W El Pintado, Danville, CA 94526
The family would like to thank you for the many donations already made. In lieu of flowers, any further donations can be made to Robin Smart, trustee of the Smart Living Trust earmarked for Nicole and Parker's college education.
