Dr. Anthony Berardino passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his family on Wednesday, September fourteenth. He is survived by Marie his wife of sixty-seven years, his five children Lynda Bredleau, Judy Moses, Jenny Berardino, Lisa Childs and Tony Berardino, nine grandchildren, three great-granddaughters, and his sister, Gloria Cooper.
Anthony was born in Chicago and graduated from the University of Illinois Medical School. He began his family practice in Park Ridge, IL. In 1967 he moved his family to Danville, California where he was a respected and beloved physician to the community for over twenty-five years. At John Muir hospital he enjoyed working with a group of life-long friends, which included not only doctors and nurses but also the entire staff. His patients loved him as much as he loved them. It was not unusual for Dr. B to make house calls long after that practice was no longer the norm.
Dr. B was instrumental in planning and initiating the Danville Community Center in 1969, the first ambulance service in Danville in 1973 in honor of Helen Howell, and the San Ramon Regional Medical Center in 1990 where he served on the Board of Directors. He was honored as Danville's Citizen of the year in 1971.
Tony found joy in poetry, art, music, cooking, flying his small plane, sailing, and FOX News; but the greatest joy of his life was Marie his loving wife with whom he shared his life since he was fourteen years old.
Services will be held on Friday, September 22nd at 10:30 at St. Isidore's Catholic Church in Danville.
The family is grateful for the care provided by hospice. Donations may be made in Dr. B's name to Continuum Care Hospice.
